The article deals with the concept of information culture» and approaches to its formation. The information culture of the individual is analyzed as a condition for successful adaptation of a person to life in the information society, as an integral part of the general culture focused on information support of human activity. Particular attention is paid to the problem of forming the information culture of the future specialist in the course of higher education, in particular the future document specialist, for whom the information culture is an integral component of his professional competence. The activity of the library of the institution of higher education as a center of accumulation and storage of socially important masses of information is presented. The analysis of the process of interactionis made between the library of a higher educational institution (on the example of the library of the Central Ukrainian National Technical University) and users of information resources in modern conditions, arising under the influence of the development of information technologies in the library sphere and education in general. The importance of the place of the library in the information space and its role in the training of specialists of the new formationare emphasized. Emphasis is placed on the activities of the CNTU library on the formation of information culture of future specialists of the document and information sphere, taking into account their educational and research needs. Measures of information and bibliographical and educational character, organizational and pedagogical conditions of effective work of the library for forming of information culture of the future document specialist are determined. The conclusions emphasize that the task of modern education is to create the conditions for the development of an information culture of the individual, who will provide the ability to navigate the information space, receive information and operate it in accordance with own needs and requirements of the modern information society. The perspective directions of activity of the library of the higher education institution on forming of information culture of the future specialist are defined, in particular, the further use of innovative technologies in the organization of work and formation of electronic resources at the request of the educational process and scientific activity of the university
