Abstract
The article outlines some aspects of scientific activity of Oleksandr Serhiievych Grushevskyi, in particular, his scientific-organisational and pedagogical work, and also achievement in area of archive science, history of Ukraine and ethnography. It was noted that Oleksandr Grushevskyi was the first to raise the issue of the need for archival reform and to take the first steps to develop such a project. According to these plans, the general guidance, coordination of theoretical research and practical work in the field of archival affairs was to be carried out by the library-archival department of the People’s Ministry of Education of the UPR, headed by Oleksandr Grushevskyi. This department created an archeographic commission for the development of theoretical problems of archival science, the scientific library, and the editorial board of the specialized journal «Monuments». The scientist laid the foundations of a general archival reform in Ukraine (1918), which envisaged the creation of the National Archives of the Ukrainian State in Kyiv and provincial archives and commissions on the ground. It is not only the scientific, organizational and pedagogical activities of Oleksandr Grushevskyi that amaze. He is the author of more than 100 scientific papers on the history of Ukraine, historiography, ethnography, and the history of literature. The scientific, organizational and pedagogical activity of Oleksandr Grushevskyi was terminated in August 1933 – he was dismissed from all positions at the All-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences. On August 9, 1938 he was arrested. For participation in the anti-Soviet nationalist organization O. Grushevskyi was sentenced to five years of exile. Oleksandr Grushevskyi, like his brother Mykhailo Serhiievych, has also greatly benefited from Ukrainian science, including in such fields as the history of Ukraine, ethnography, archeography, archival studies
