Abstract
The article comprehensively researches the organizational, educational and scientific principles of the functioning of the Uman National University of Horticulture in the second half of the 19th –at the end of the 20th century. The prerequisites and peculiarities of the gradual development of the institution (from the school to the institute) against the background of the general trends of the formation and development of agricultural education in the territory of the Ukrainian lands of the specified period are defined. Changes in educational programs, in the formation of the practical economy of the institution were monitored; attention is focused on the specifics of the formation of training areas in the context of the reorganization of schools on the basis of normative acts that regulated its activity during the 1860’s–1890’s, reforming the structure of schools at the beginning of the 20th century. The influence of the socio-political situation in the 1920’s on the process of organizing the educational process in the institution (Ukrainization, opening of the labor faculty), directions of scientific activity in the status of an agricultural technical school are highlighted. The activity of the institution since its reorganization into the Uman Agricultural Institute (1928) is characterized. Changes in the educational and practical structure in the 1930’s, the expansion of educational and scientific work at the institute in the post-war period are considered. The personal contribution of famous scientists, in particular, I.M. Yeremeiev in the development of the institute and the development of the agrotechnical industry in general. Attention was paid to the organizational design of new structural units at the institute, training formats for higher agricultural education, raising the professional level of specialists (training of agronomists-pedagogues, postgraduate agricultural education) in the 1960’s – 1980’s. The exhibition and educational activities of the institution at each of the stages of activity were analyzed. It has been established that along with the practical results of improving agricultural production, the educational and scientific work of the institution in the second half of the 19th - at the beginning of the 20th century. was repeatedly honored with honorary awards at regional, national and international specialized exhibitions. Expansion of scientific and practical activities, exhibition activity of the institute in the second half of the 20th century. became factors in establishing its status as one of the leading centers of agricultural science in Ukraine
