Group work as a means of activating students' cognitive activity in the lessons of history and basics of jurisprudence in secondary schools

Abstract

The article analyzes group work as a form of organizing students’ cognitive activity in history and basics of jurisprudence lessons, and reveals its educational and upbringing possibilities in school practice. The competency-based model of education, which is aimed at the personal, social and intellectual development of each student, is now a priority in modern school education. A prerequisite for the implementation of this approach to the organization of the educational process is the introduction of new pedagogical technologies that not only improve the quality of education and upbringing, but also activate students’ cognitive activity and develop their skills of self-education and self-realization. Group work of students, as one of the most effective forms of developing subject competencies, has a powerful potential for effective and efficient solution of the tasks that teachers face today. The active use of group work in school practice, the creation of an atmosphere of positive motivation to learn, and the involvement of innovative methods in the joint cognitive activity of students contribute to the overall success of the educational process and contribute to the modern reform of the educational environment. The author develops the idea that group work of students in history and basics of jurisprudence is an effective form of knowledge acquisition and creates conditions for the development of students’ creative abilities. It provides a solution to the modern educational tasks faced by teachers. Group work, like any other type of educational activity, is subject to the didactic requirements of its implementation. Their observance is a prerequisite and guarantees the effectiveness of including this form of cognitive activity in students’ work in the classroom. It has been concluded that methodically balanced preparation and organization of group work of students not only ensures the solution of cognitive tasks of history and basics of jurisprudence lessons, but also contributes to the increase of teaching efficiency, formation of students’ personality, and unity of the student team. The ability to self-realization and cooperation, to work in a team, which implies coherence of joint actions, are the leading competencies determined by the modern requirements of school education. The combination of different forms of students’ learning activities in history and basics of jurisprudence lessons allows to achieve a high level of development of their cognitive activity. The educational process, based on the use of collective forms of work, has a powerful potential for creating an atmosphere of creative work of students, which makes it possible to stimulate their activity in studying the history and basics of law, to develop skills of independent and creative approach to acquiring knowledge
