Abstract

The global transformations taking place in all key areas of life in the modern world today are forcing a fresh look at many phenomena that are integral components of the global historical process. The city is undoubtedly one of these phenomena. The exceptional role of the city in shaping the economic, economic, social, political, and cultural foundations of civilisation makes the problem of studying the patterns of its creation and development one of the priorities in world and Ukrainian historical science. Thanks to the efforts of scholars, the city has come to be recognised as a complex socio-historical phenomenon that requires a comprehensive study. The city, having concentrated all the main features of society, is a kind of model of it. It is in cities that the dynamics of social development is most clearly reflected.
