The concepts of «traditional records management» and «electronic records management» are clarified in the article. The definition of traditional records management was based on the analysis of documentary processes for traditional documents. The paper documents are now considered as traditional. The integrative nature of electronic records management was defined as a combination of the concepts of general and special electronic recordkeeping, as well as the organization of work with all documents with electronic media, in particular documents in electronic form, electronic documents as a composition of obligatory requisites signed by electronic signature, and electronic information resources. It has been clarified that the place of electronic records management in the structure of modern records management is viewed in the context of its interdisciplinary nature, which consists in combining of the requirements of document scientists, archivists, lawyers, IT professionals and managers. The results of the research show that the recordkeeping model of today is a hybrid records management, where information technology is used to create all documents, both electronic and paper, and on the other hand, which is a successful combination of approaches of electronic and traditional records management. The concepts of electronic and traditional records management were compared. Comparisons were made on such key criteria as the subject of the research, the scope, the subjects’ perception, compliance with the challenges and requirements of modern society, the advantages and disadvantages of implementing electronic and traditional records management in organizations. Comparison results show that electronic records management cannot exist today without paper records management and vice versa. It was concluded that traditional and electronic records management are now not interchangeable phenomena, but complementary concepts, and their main task is to preserve the heritage of past generations and use this work to form new approaches in the next stages of evolution
