The article reveals aspects of the real and potential (prospective) interaction of libraries and archives of Ukraine at the present stage of their institutionalization as important components of the document-information sphere of the state. Both historical and modern forms of cooperation between libraries and archives, their features and importance for the improvement of their activities in accordance with the requirements and challenges of modernity are considered. It is proved that at present integrative processes are a global trend in the «library-archive-museum» triad. Examples of effective library and archival cooperation, starting from the 1960s, which, however, had no systemic nature, are given. A brief overview of the discussion of the tasks of joint activities of libraries and archives from the standpoint of librarians and archivists is made. There are problems in the training of personnel in the framework of the new complex specialty 029 «Information, Library and Archival Affairs», in determining the necessary amount of basic knowledge of future specialists. The need for an integrated approach to library and archival interaction is noted, which should take into account the common interests of these institutions: training qualified personnel, mutual use of sectoral periodicals and continuing publications, holding joint conferences, seminars, workshops, improving the regulatory and terminological framework, etc. In particular, large libraries of Ukraine have their own archives and need practical assistance from archivists to streamline them in accordance modern requirements to the organization and use of archival documents. It is advisable to conduct an exchange of practical developments of joint interest, more actively use the professional press and collections of scientific papers. The legal registration of cooperation in the form of relevant agreements (contracts) between the library and archival institutions seems important. It is necessary to expand the scope of international cooperation of Ukrainian librarians and archivists on the platform of the unity of their functions in preserving the human document memory
