Abstract
The article analyzes the materials of the Volyn Museum of Local Lore Fund of the Scientific Archive of M. T. Rilsky Institute of Art Studies, Folklore Studies and Ethnology of NAS of Ukraine connected with the activity of the museum in the first quarter of the 20th century from the collection of information about pysanka with the help of correspondents, the formation of the collection and its processing. The methodological basis is the general scientific principles and methods of research. Among them – problem-chronological, search, analysis and synthesis, generalizations that allowed studying the given issue and to reveal separate documents of the fund related to the collection of pysanka paintings of the Volyn Museum in the early 20th century. The purpose of our study is the need to define archival funds, where collections of Ukrainian studies documents are kept, in which information about the pysanka, pysanka painting, rites, customs and beliefs related to the Easter symbol, the formation of museum collections and so on can be gathered. The main task is to introduce into the scientific circulation archival sources unknown to the general public and unpublished earlier. In the materials that came to the Volyn Local Lore Museum in 1909-1914, the places of production were indicated, those who sent or passed the pysanka to the museum, as well as information about them, who they are and where they work or study. The presented materials represent unique documentary sources in which the activity of the Volyn Local Lore Museum, which worked in Zhytomyr from 1900 to 1932, was testified. They confirm the active work of the institution and its employees I. Shulikov, ethnographer V. Kravchenko on the collection and processing of materials about material and spiritual culture of the local population, which came to the museum’s funds. It is worth noting the work of the Volyn Researchers Society. Not known to the general public, the considered sources indicate the existence of pysanka and their use during Easter custom-ritual traditions, in the beliefs of Ukrainians from the end of the 19th century till the 20’s years of the 20th century. In general, archival documents are represented by an epistolary heritage, illustrative, historical, ethnographic, documentary sources, which makes it possible to discover the theme of pysanka, its existence in the early 20th century on the territory of Volyn, Podillia and other province
