To the question about the specificity of archival support for the study of the specific aspects of the new history of Ukraine (on the example of the accident at the Chernobyl NPP)

Abstract

The purpose of the article is to provide as much information as possible about the actual processes associated with the Chernobyl accident and its consequences. A special place is occupied by archival sources because of the accumulation of a huge array of concrete historical information about this situation, the actions of the authorities and the reactions of society. First of all, these are the funds of the Central State Archives of the Supreme Governments and Governments of Ukraine and the Central State Archives of Public Associations, as well as the Central Party Archive under the Central Committee of the CPSU and the former Central State Archive of the National Economy of the USSR. More information on the problem is presented in departmental archives. Among them: the current archive of the Verkhovna Rada Commission on Chornobyl disaster, the Government Archives, and the Government Department – the Council of Ministers of the Ukrainian SSR, the Departmental Archives of the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Chernobyl, the SBU and the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. It was clarified that the Chernobyl disaster left many unresolved problems, so their study should be continued with the involvement of a variety of sources of information. And the most important of them – archival sources.
