Abstract
The purpose of the research is to generalize and systematize biographical information and professional achievements of K. Dubniak. The biography of the scientist is full of contradictory facts from birth to death. In a certain way, it fascinated the researcher to study the subject of the study in more deeply. A number of factors influenced the formation and establishment of a scientific worldview and an active public position: family environment, spiritual upbringing, obtaining a thorough professional education, social environment and his public position during the period of radical political changes of the first decades of the 20th century. It is possible to study the formation and development of many branches of domestic science – natural terminology, local geography, agricultural bibliography and history according to the K. Dubniak’s creative heritage. A comprehensive study of the scientist’s life path and scientific heritage in Ukrainian and foreign historiography made it possible for the first time to propose a periodization of his scientific, organizational and pedagogical activities. The researcher has defined four periods: Poltava (1890–1908, 1915–1922), Kyiv (1922–1924), Russian (1908–1909, 1915–1916, 1936–1939), and Kharkiv (1909–1914, 1924–1933, 1939–1945). She has described the additional stages in each of them. Within these stages, the researcher has investigated the main directions of the scientist’s activity, clarified his professional preferences and briefly mentioned his achievements. This made it possible to outline the novelty of his scientific studies. The scientist was one of the first to introduce a local history component in the activities of library institutions, which were to become the centers of organization and coordination of bibliographic work on an all-Ukrainian scale. In addition, he developed unified scientific and methodical approaches to work with literature, technical processing of bibliography and classification of cards. K. Dubniak became one of the founders of the national branch bibliography built on the principle of local history. He gave significant importance to natural terminology and worked on the development of natural lexicography and compilation of terminological dictionaries. The scientist determined the peculiarities of the etymological origin of local history terms in the Ukrainian language, in particular by including the term «local history bibliography» in the terminological list. He proved that an interdisciplinary approach to Ukrainian local studies is dominant in the further economic growth and education of the nation and substantiated his own understanding of the place and role of economic geography, which studies the economic region or even the state as separate components of the world economy; developed the theoretical foundations of «production local history». This historical exploration is a kind of commemoration of the memory of the Ukrainian scientist K. Dubniak and an informative source for the study of creative heritage
