Abstract
Theoretical and methodological approaches to understanding the phenomenon of «national pride» are revealed. Found out that the nature of «national pride» is most meaningfully revealed by the research of foreign authors such as Tom V. Smith, Lars Jarkko, Valentyna Dimitrova-Grayzl, Jonathan Eastwood, Peter Grayzl, Christopher Dawson, Larysa Tamilina and others. In their research they emphasize the fact that national pride is higher than patriotism, but at the same time it is not nationalism. The main factor contributing to the formation of national pride is strengthening and stability of the national identity of citizens, which depends on a number of factors. While research the formation of national pride in independent Ukraine, Larysa Tamilina singles out several factors that contributed to the establishment of this phenomenon in Ukraine after 2014 – armed aggression of the Russian Federation, strengthening of the position of the Ukrainian language and further strengthening of democracy. Also, in the article attention is paid to the state of national pride in the USA and some European countries at the current stage of development. The revealed trends indicate a significant drop in indicators of national pride, especially among young people. Analyzing the state policy of Ukraine on the «pride vector» which was launched in 2015, it was found that, in addition to the factors mentioned by Larysa Tamilina, it envisaged the launch of a whole set of state programs and reforms designed to create sustainable national pride in the population of Ukraine. The result of the initiated initiatives was a rapid growth of national pride among Ukrainians, as evidenced by sociological surveys. The Russian Federation’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022 has been found to have raised national pride levels to between 75 and 98% (according to various estimates). At the same time, the research identified factors that could lead to a significant decrease in national pride and proposed ways to solve them
