Abstract
The article attempts to trace the basic conditions of functioning of the scientific-agricultural societies in Ukraine during the 20th – early 21st centuries, in particular, to determine the organizational model, structural structure and principles of these public associations of scientists. It is established that the building of the structure of administrative management of Soviet science took place in two directions: the first, – the gradual destruction during the 1920’s of social-scientific organizations of the previous period; the second is the purposeful development of a new science organization (creation of a network of research institutes and new centres of «public activity» controlled by the state). It is found that in the 1930’s the new forms of public associations of scientists – scientific societies of all-Union importance, which eventually created an extensive network of independent republican societies that joined the state scientific and technical tasks fulfilment, have began to appear. Most of these societies existed not only until the late 1980’s, but continued to operate as independent public organizations, re-registering in the early 1990’s by the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, indicating a certain legacy of the organizational and scientific traditions of the societies of Soviet and modern periods. In particular, the article updates information on such societies of the Soviet period, as: Ukrainian Scientific-Technical Society of Agriculture, Ukrainian Scientific-Technical Society of Forest Industry and Forestry, Ukrainian Society for Nature Protection and Promotion of Natural Resources, and as well as the period of independence – Ukrainian Society of Soil Study Scientists and Agrochemists, M. I. Vavylov’s Ukrainian Society of Geneticists and Breeders, P. H. Kostiuk’s Ukrainian Physiological Society, Ukrainian Botanical Society, Ukrainian Entomological Society, S. M. Vinogradskyi’s Society of Microbiologists of Ukraine, Ukrainian Society for Nature Preservation, Ukrainian Society of Plant Physiologists, Ukrainian Scientific Society of Herbologists, Ukrainian Scientific Society of Parasitologists, Scientific Society of Agrarian Historians
