The effective functioning of social communications in the new conditions of the mass distribution of information and communication technologies, where unverified or false information is often present, is impossible without the development of such a traditional form as documentary publications. The purpose of the article is to summarize the experience of Ukraine in the formation of a policy of documentary communication through the publication of collections of archival documents in the last decade to provide society with the most objective information in the most diverse spheres of its life. The research methodology is based on comparison strategies, typology, principles of historicism, social approach. The logic of the presentation of the material is based on the problem-historical principle. The scientific novelty of the research is due to the fact that the issues of analyzing the place and role of documentary publications as a component of the system of social communications have not yet become the subject of special research. It is shown that the volume of documentary materials published in the last decade is quite large and has created thematic blocks with a wide chronology. The significant contribution of documentary collections prepared in the regions dedicated, in particular, to topics that have developed only in the days of independence, has been noted. It can be stated that historians and archivists in general cope with the task of showing an objective picture of historical events, which is the main thing in effective social communication. At the same time, the state of social communications has significant reserves for its development in the preparation of documentary publications that meet the urgent information needs of the population and for dispelling clichés and myths about important historical events, and where there is especially informational influence external to Ukraine
