Today, it is impossible to stop the rapid spread of gadgets, readers, mobile phones as a means of access to Internet resources, including library content on the World Wide Web. It is also impossible to change the situation towards the actualization of e-reading, the general fact is that the most effective information and library services to the population is achieved by creating electronic libraries. Electronic libraries can consist of collections of electronic documents (digitized traditional materials, or created directly in electronic form), and be a system with a unified approach to the production, storage, organization of various information. The paper describes the main elements of digitization of the library as a component of the information society developing. Library sites are the gateway to the library, its business card in the Internet space. Accounts in social networks and blogs dramatically increase the interactivity of information exchange and traffic to library sites, in general, increase interest in the library from existing and potential users. The global reorientation of priorities in the work of library and information institutions, in connection with the creation of an electronic library, is obvious, it is aimed at the development of network technologies, electronic resources, information services, library cooperation. Digital libraries, electronic collections, electronic backup systems, online public access catalogs, ezine databases, and other IPs have become popular means of accessing information sources.
