Standardization: Historical stages of formation in Ukraine

Abstract

The article analyzes the literature sources, examines the historical preconditions for the development of the standardization system in Ukraine and the world. Peculiarities of origin and development of standardization are considered. The centuries-old history of standardization is very interesting and useful for society, because the activities in the field of standardization can be traced back to ancient times. Elements of standardization appeared when the term did not yet exist. The definition of the basic terminology, which reveals the essence of the problem: «standardization», «standards», etc. is given. The standard has been found to establish rules, guidelines, or characteristics for general and reusable activities that relate to activities or their results, including products, processes, or services that are optional. A standard may contain requirements for terminology, marking, packaging or labeling that apply to a particular product, process, or service. Standardization accumulates the latest advances in science and technology, easily combines basic and applied science, facilitating the rapid implementation of these scientific advances in practice, helps to identify the most promising areas of economic and technological progress and the state of the economy. Standardization is one of the most effective ways to improve production and trade relations, reduce costs, improve the quality and competitiveness of products at all stages of its life cycle. It establishes rules, general principles or characteristics for different activities or results.Types of standardization and features of origin of international and national standardization, creation of organizations on standardization, development of standardization in Ukraine are investigated. It was found that the first results of national and international standardization were of great practical importance for the development of productive forces and led to the creation of national standardization organizations
