Abstract
Periodicals are published at certain intervals with a predetermined permanent annual quantity and the title of numbered or dated, uniformly issued editions that are not repeated in content and have the same title. Particularly interesting for historians, especially for ethnographers, are regional periodicals. Such publications contain diverse information. The article deals with the activity of the Institute of Archeology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. This establishment is the main scientific institution for archeological expeditions. The institution is a part of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, which carries out research activities in the field of archeology and ancient history of Ukraine. The Institute of Archeology is a part of the Department of History, Philosophy and Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The purpose of the article is to analyze the editions during 1945-1991, to distinguish the texts that certify the activity of archaeological expeditions of scientific institutions. To study the history and development of publications of Pereiaslav district two main methods are used in the article: observation and description. At different stages of the study the method of functional analysis is used to determine the thematic loading of periodicals. In the process of research the following methods have been applied: the method of analysis and synthesis – at the stage of the text division of periodicals of Pereiaslav district and grouping them according to certain features; the method of quantitative analysis – to determine the frequency of the use of headings and their various forms in the newspaper strips. It is concluded that during the analyzed period the activity of archeological expeditions of scientific institutions was covered by Pereiaslav’s newspaper with the following names: «Prapor Pereiaslav-Khmelnytskoho», «Zoria komunizmu» and «Komunistychna Pratsia». In total, we have recorded eleven publications. Most of the authors were museum staff and expedition members, but in some cases the job posts of occasional authors were not indicated. It became known that since the end of 50 years the archeological research of the city was continued by a joint expedition of the Institute of Archeology of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR and Pereiaslav-Khmelnytskii History Museum. The most notable discovery was the excavation of a stone gate with the overhead church of Theodore, the so-called «episcopal». Unique was the discovery of a civilian stone building – the bishop’s palace, excavated in 1962-63 in 26 Radianska Street
